Locally owned and operated since 2018, CB Custom Closets designs and installs custom storage solutions in and around Crested Butte, Colorado. Owner Robin Yost works with local designers, contractors, and homeowners to bring together clients’ dream spaces and storage solutions in homes throughout the Gunnison Valley.
Having lived in the valley since her days at Western Colorado University, Robin has the local knowledge and connections to make your custom closet design process as simple as possible, even in our snowy environment. You might even catch her two children lending a hand on the job site!

What drives your business and success? How did you get into this line of work?
I have always enjoyed the creativity and drive required to be self-employed. I also appreciate having the license to change the direction of service as needed without a lot of proverbial hoops. When you are running a small business for yourself, you are never short on opportunities to highly personalize your product for each of your clients. It's rewarding for everyone.
Growing up, I looked forward to walking through my dad's spec project with him and always kept tabs on all the local building projects. I dreamed of being an architect or a general contractor someday, but I didn't wind up going that way in college. After 16 years of running restaurants, I was ready to switch gears. I loved making food and being among my community every day, but I also knew that I wanted a business that employed more of my natural skill set, which is more spatial and design oriented than food service oriented. I also wanted a job that was primarily based out of my home so that I could have more time and flexibility for my two kids, now13 and 14.
I got sparked by a great job at Interior Visions with Heidi Sherratt where I particularly enjoyed her vast knowledge of kitchen layout and design. We had lots of clients inquiring about closet designs and products, so eventually, I decided to take the plunge and start a closet company.
Why do people love to work with you?
The importance of well-thought-out storage has been otherwise overlooked in our local building schema. Whether you are building, remodeling your home, or just updating an existing closet, my clients love working with CB Custom Closets because the reward for this level of planning is high. An entire home functions differently when there is a thoughtful space for all of the things we need to store.
Crested Butte has been an incredible environment for lifestyle, outdoor experiences, and also for stepping into new business ventures. I am indelibly grateful for the outstanding support of this tight-knit community when it comes to friendship, neighborly endeavors, and support for my new ideas in business, too.
